A special prosecutor has filed a felony
tax evasion charge against a Pine Bluff circuit judge suspended from the bench after he was issued a drunken driving citation and charged with other misdemeanors. The charge of evading or defeating a state tax was filed
Wednesday against Fred D. Davis the Third. Davis was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Garland County on June tenth. He was also charged with driving an unregistered vehicle and unlawful use of a dealer`s license plate that was displayed on the sport-utility vehicle Davis was driving.
Davis was suspended from the bench July 13th by the state Supreme Court. Police say Davis told the arresting officer he was using a dealer`s license plate to get around paying sales tax on the
vehicle. Davis has since licensed the vehicle, and denies having made such a remark to the state trooper.
