Officer Pleads No Contest to Sex Assault

Little Rock officer Don Smith will spend the next three months locked up, undoubtedly jailed with some of the same people he helped put behind bars. After adamantly denying any involvement with two women who claimed he forced them to perform oral sex on him, he made a plea. That came after Smith tripped himself up on the stand with his own testimony. He went against statements made in an earlier deposition that he had visited prostitutes. On the stand he said he would never go to a prostitute. One of his accusers was a woman for hire at the time of the attack. She claims he asked her what she could do for him that would keep her out of jail. Smith was facing back to back trials for sex assault this week. Mentioning the second case during the first one, against the order of the judge, opened the door to a slew of evidence and forced the plea. On his way to jail Smith apologized to his pregnant wife. She happily testified on his behalf, saying he did not have a bite mark on his genitals. One of his victims claimed she bit him in self defense. After the plea, Teresa Smith had to have assistance walking as she sobbed. In addition to the jail time, her husband will have to spend 5 years on probation and register as a sex offender.
