Medical Marijuana Petitions

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
After falling short last month, supporters of a proposed ballot measure for legalized marijuana tried again today. The supporters turned in signatures to the secretary of state`s office this afternoon. They said they were confident that they had gathered enough valid signatures to get their measure on the November Second general election ballot. Their deadline was today. Last month the group fell about 33 thousand 500 signatures short of the 64 thousand 465 signatures they needed. Former state Senator John Riggs has been helping with the effort and said that he estimates they gathered about 46 thousand 600 new signatures. The measure would allow Arkansans with debilitating medical conditions to use marijuana under a physician`s advice, using what they or a caregiver grew after obtaining a registry card from the state Department of Health.
