Plans For NLR Bass Pro Are Still A Go

Plans for a major North Little Rock shopping center anchored by a Missouri-based outdoor goods retailer are progressing despite environmental concerns and complaints from other businesses. North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Hays says that he hopes the store is under construction by this time next year. The development at the southeast corner of the intersection of Interstates 40 and 30 was announced in April 2003 but ground has yet to be broken. The US Army Corps of Engineers must still approve a permit to allow dredging on the 120-acre site, which includes 30 acres of wetlands. Among the groups objecting to the permit are the Environmental Protection Agency and the US Fish and Wildlife Department. Both groups said the project would affect aquatic resources. The corps sent the permit request back to Belz-Burrow to address the concerns and is waiting for the developer`s response before making a final permit decision. Hays said he expected the permit issue to be resolved soon.
