Arkansas track and field coach John McDonnell offered prayers today for the family of two-time Olympian Robert Howard. Howard jumped to his death from the tenth story of a Little Rock hospital complex building early Saturday after allegedly stabbing his neurosurgeon wife to death. In a statement released today, McDonnell said the deaths were a total shock. Also today, police at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences released details including at timeline of events surrounding the deaths. Howard was a third-year medical student. His wife was Doctor Robin Mitchell. Little Rock Police Sergeant Terry Hastings said investigators assume Howard was also responsible for killing his wife, the chief resident in neurosurgery at U-A-M-S. He said police found a suicide letter at the home.
