Clinton Library Offering A View Of Wildlife

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A University of Arkansas student began planting 94 trees and shrubs on a virtually untouched island just below the cantilevered edge of the Clinton Library. Jon Raney of Beebe has been spending the summer researching the flora of Arkansas and organizing tree plantings for the 30 acre park where the presidential library is being built. Today, Raney went out to the island to plant two sycamores and 12 sumac trees as tests for about 80 others in October. The island is just a few feet off-shore in the Arkansas River and is controlled by the U-S Army Corps of Engineers. It is home to a family of red fox. The raised, glass-enclosed Clinton Library museum building juts out to the river`s edge immediately across a narrow channel from the island, allowing for great views of the wildlife.
