Former LRPD Officer Cleared Of Sexual Assault

After less than two hours of deliberation, jurors in Little Rock cleared a former city officer of raping a teenager. The allegations were made against Charles Johnson last May following a stint as a camp counselor for "Unitown" on Petit Jean Mountain. It was at Unitown that the married Johnson met and began a phone/ e-mail relationship with a 16-year-old female student from J.A. Fair High School. While the girl alleged that Johnson forced himself on her inside his truck during a date, jurors believed otherwise, acquitting him. Johnson, a decorated police officer, who worked with the Navy and the FBI in counter-terrorism, lost jobs and almost his family during the investigation. He says he plans to sue the Little Rock police department for what he claims happened to him during his initial questioning about this incident. He says his civil rights were violated when he was threatened with jail and denied a lawyer while being pushed to make a statement in the case. KARK-4 contacted the spokesman for the Little Rock Police Department for comment about this situation and got no return call.
