The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is making apologies to a Faulkner County woman for violating her federal rights during a weekend camping trip. Brenda Moseley has significant nerve damage in her legs and her doctors have prescribed a scooter to help her get around. Park Rangers and keepers of the gatehouse at the Corps` Choctaw Campground took issue with that scooter last Saturday. Moseley says she was told she would need a permit to operate the it on the federal site. That would actually violate federal law. The Rehabiltation Act of 1973 safeguards the right of Moseley and others to use scooters. The Greenbrier woman says the problem with the Corp employees went well beyond knowledge of the law. According to her rangers rudely suggested she was using the scooter to just joyride and rebuffed her when she tried to file a complaint at the Army Corps office. Since the U.S. Army Crops of Engineers was contacted by KARK 4 News, Moseley has received an apology call and been offered a free night of camping. She says she doesn`t want anyone to lose out on enjoying the great outdoors through aids that are protected by federal law. Spokesmen for the Corps admit a mistake was made and say a meeting was held about the situation an the law has been reviewed.
