Auto Parts Plant Breaks Ground

Hino Motors broke ground on
an automobile parts plant at Marion. The company`s chairman says development of the 160 million-dollar project in the Arkansas Delta marks its commitment to expanded operations in the United
States. While Hino Chairman Tadaaki Jagawa did not say Hino would eventually build trucks or automobiles in Arkansas, he said the expanse of land near interstate highways, rail lines and the Mississippi River would fit Hino`s needs. Governor Huckabee says Hino`s arrival marks a transition in a region that has long been economically depressed. Hino, based in Tokyo, chose Marion in May as the site of a plant employing 280 people making differentials and rear axle and
suspension related parts for 300 thousand Toyota vehicles a year.
The plant is expected to open in October 2006.
