Compromise Reached On Hot Springs Thermal Water Fees

Updated: January 7, 2009
Congressman Mike Ross says a meeting Monday with Hot Springs National Park officials and businesses that use the park`s thermal waters helped produce a compromise over plans to increase water rates. Instead of increasing the rates for commercial users from 25 cents per thousand gallons to $2.70 per thousand gallons as of September first, the increase will go into effect January first. In addition, the rates will not increase again until after a new study determines the future financial needs of the park to operate the hot springs water system. Ross called the meeting of parks officials and hotel and hospital operators who use the thermal waters after complaints over the sharp increase in rates.
