Nearly 900 Arkansas residents will receive refund checks because of settlement agreement between the state and drug manufacturer Bristol-Myers Squibb. At issue was pricing of an
anti-anxiety drug. The average refund check will be 729 dollars. The refunds
resulted from a lawsuit filed by attorneys general of all 50 states
and the District of Columbia claiming that the company conspired with competitors and in engaged in other anticompetitive activities to keep the generic version of the drug BuSpar off the market. The March 2003 settlement resulted in 57,474 customers nationwide being able to recover more than 37 million dollars. BuSpar is used to treat generalized anxiety disorders and
