Updated: January 7, 2009
Prosecutor Larry Jegley has written a letter to Governor Huckabee calling for an immediate moratorium on commutations and pardons for any criminal convicted of any violent offense. Jegley said he issued the plea after Huckabee granted clemency to John Henry Claiborne. Claiborne was convicted of robbery and kidnapping and sentenced to 340 years. Huckabee granted his release after serving 10 years. Jegley says Huckabee has granted more clemencies than the three previous governor`s combined. Huckabee is out of the state this week, his office issued a statement acussing Jegley of seeking publicity.
