breaking news
Two fronts of relatively cool are moving
from the north toward Arkansas and are forecast to provide some
relief from the searing heat.
In central and southern Arkansas, the heat indices hovered
around 108 degrees yesterday -- continuing a sudden trend of very
hot weather. June and the early part of July had been comparatively
mild.
The National Weather Service says a cool front was expected
today from Missouri, where heat indices are down to the low 80s.
Another is predicted to move into Arkansas this weekend.
Temperatures were in the 90s yesterday in the most stifling
Arkansas regions, but humidity usually made it feel ten degrees
hotter. At 4 p.m., the North Little Rock Airport recorded the first
triple-digit temperature of this summer season.

The Arkansas Health Department issued warnings this week to help
people avoid heat stroke. It advised people to drink plenty of
fluids without alcohol, caffeine or large amounts of sugar. The
agency advises to spend the hottest hours of the day indoors.
The department said people over 65 years old, people with
disabilities and children are at risk of heat-related illnesses.
