Supporters Of Marriage Amendment Need Money

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The leader of a group campaigning for a constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage says the organization needs money. Arkansas Marriage Amendment Committee president Jerry Cox says the group sent about 2,500 e-mails to supporters asking for immediate donations of 100 dollars or more. The group has to make up for a $4,000 accounting error. The committee needs to raise $5,100 by Thursday so that Cox can pay employees and federal payroll taxes that are due that day. The organization has turned in 200,000 signatures to the secretary of state -- well more than the 80,570 names of registered voters it needs to get the proposed amendment on the November second ballot.
