breaking news
Thirty miles is not too far to go for a little girl`s smile.
And that`s how far more than 100 bikers rode from North Little Rock to Haskell, Arkansas Sunday afternoon.
The ride to raise money for the family of 3-year old Jayla Kramer, who was diagnosed with leukemia in late May.
When her smiling face started to frown, her parents, Justin and Jill Kramer, started to worry.
"She stopped eating for a couple of days, not eating real well," said her father, Justin Kramer. "Jill noticed one side of her mouth was drooping, one eye was staying closed."
They alsno noticed her coordination was awkward when she played with other children.
"I`ve always been so protective of her, germs, you know, and don`t put her in the shopping cart at Wal-Mart," said Jill Kramer.
But a mother`s protection couldn`t stop Jayla from developing leukemia.
"It was hard, even though she`s not my child, it was hard," said Deanna Rogers, the Kramer`s neighbor.
She and her husband, Tom, wasted no time helping out.
"First thing I thought was, what would happen if something like that happened to my child. I would hope something like this would happen," Tom Rogers said.
By recruiting more than 100 bikers, the Rogers are hoping to raise money for the Kramer family.
Jill Kramer has had to quit her job at an elementary school to avoid bringing other illnesses home, and the family has sold their truck for income.
But when friends like the Rogers` ride for miles just to help out, the miles ahead for 3-year old Jayla Kramer become a little easier.
"You hang up the phone and you go, `You know what? It`s gonna be ok,` said Justin Kramer. "It may not be, but we believe it is."
The Kramer`s recently found that Jayla is in remission, but she`s still admitted to the hospital for monthly treatment. And she will have two more years of treatment.
