Bentonville-based Wal-Mart Stores
Incorporated is asking a federal appeals court to review a judge`s
order on a massive discrimination lawsuit.
Wal-Mart wants a review of a decision that granted class-action
status for a sex-discrimination lawsuit, giving representation to
as many as $1.6 million current and former women
Wal-Mart workers.
The suit alleges that the retail giant set up a system that
frequently pays its female workers less than their male
counterparts for comparable jobs and bypasses them for promotions.
If the appeals court does not overturn the ruling, the case will
become the largest private civil rights lawsuit in U-S history.
The San Francisco-based appeals court did not indicate if it
would consider Wal-Mart`s petition.
