Alltel Corporation says it has laid off 50 workers at its call center in Shreveport. Tthe company said the employees worked in service activation. Alltel spokesman David Avery said up to 20 workers may be rehired for the customer service department located in the same center. Avery said the layoffs resulted from a review of operations by the telecommunications company and a resulting plan to consolidate call centers. The retail activation center assists independent companies that are selling Alltel service. Alltel`s three other retail activation centers are in Little Rock, Virginia Beach, and Phoenix.
