CD`S Coming To State Libraries

Updated: January 7, 2009
The state attorney general said today that thousands of compact discs will be distributed to Arkansas libraries as part of a settlement in a national antitrust case. The 2002 settlement with five distributors and three music retailers resulted in more than 200 thousand dollars in refunds to individual Arkansans. In the next phase of the settlement, each of 229 libraries in Arkansas will receive about 230 CDs randomly selected from a wide range of music, excluding CDs with parental-advisory labels. Libraries that do not want to keep the CDs can sell them for fund-raising purposes for music-related programs. Attorney General Mike Beebe said the case involved allegations of price fixing. Forty-three states, territories and commonwealths took part in the settlement.
