Insurance Commissioner Comes Back From Job In Iraq

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Arkansas Insurance Commissioner Mike Pickens is happy to be in one piece after returning from a two-month trip to Iraq. But he said he wouldn`t mind going back to the war-torn country because of its peaceful parts. Pickens went to Iraq to design insurance laws that comply with international codes. His work has already been approved by the Iraqi finance minister and are expected to be passed after the US transfer of power next week. Pickens used saved up vacation time to work for Bearing Point of McLean, Virginia, a British insurance regulator and officials from Baghdad`s seven main insurance comapnies. Although he is a state government employee, Pickens was acting as a private contractor while in Iraq and that worried his family -- several private contractors have been taken hostage and killed by insurgents.
