Newport Hires New Superintendent

The Newport School District has a new superintendent. The school board hired Ron Wilson last night. Wilson will take over for Floyd Marshall, who resigned last month after engaging in a scuffle with a local broadcaster. Wilson, 50, has served as superintendent of the Carlisle School District for about ten years. The board accepted Marshall`s resignation April 14, after agreeing to buy out his contract for about 233 thousand dollars. Marshall was suspended with pay April 5th after his scuffle with the co-owner of a local cable access channel. The altercation in a meeting of the superintendent and Newport media about school officials` proposal to bar media announcers from criticizing officials, coaches or players during athletic events.
