Trial is to begin today for a Little Rock
woman charged with capital murder in the slaying of her mother. The
woman`s husband is also charged, but is to be tried separately.
Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against 27-year-old
Leslie MacKool. She is accused of stabbing Janie Ballard last
September over inheritance.
Leslie MacKool has pleaded innocent by mental disease or defect.
If convicted of capital murder, she would face a sentence of life
in prison without parole.
Her husband, 50-year-old Michael MacKool, is also charged with
capital murder. Prosecutors want the death penalty against him. He
is to be tried June 14th.
