Man sentenced in murder case

One of five men accused of the shooting death of a Pine Bluff man has pleaded no contest to reduced charges and
been sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison.
Nineteen-year-old Jeffrey Ventress had been charged with capital murder and aggravated robbery in the January Fourth, 2003, shooting death of 38-year-old Sampson Cook Junior.
Cook was found inside an apartment after police responded to a call about a possible shooting. Cook was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Ventress pleaded no contest to reduced charges of second-degree
murder and aggravated robbery. He was sentenced to 20 years for murder and ten years for robbery. The sentences are to run concurrently.
Among the other defendants, two have pleaded guilty and been sentenced and two others are to be tried in June.
