Tuesday`s Supreme Court Races

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
There will be no party primaries in judicial races tomorrow. But Arkansans will vote anyway on two statewide races for seats on the Arkansas Supreme Court. Judicial races are now non-partisan. And a new state law says the first election for judges` seats must take place at the same time as party primaries. In one race, state Court of Appeals Judge Wendell Griffen of Little Rock and state Supreme Court Justice Jim Hannah of Searcy are competing for the position of chief justice of the state Supreme Court. WH "Dub" Arnold has retired from the position. In the other race, circuit judges Paul Danielson of Booneville, Jim Gunter of Hope and Collins Kilgore of Little Rock are running for the high court seat being vacated by Justice Ray Thornton.
