Updated: January 7, 2009
Unversity of Arkansas Chancellor John A White took the stand this morning in the federal trial of a racial discrimination lawsuit brought by fired basketball coach Nolan Richardson. Richardson`s lawyer questioned White about whether the coach`s contract included language that would have let the chancellor fire him. White said that when he fired Richardson on March First, 2002, he was exercising a right that was included in a pact Richardson signed in 2000. Richardson lawyer John Walker questioned whether the document gave White that authority. The lawsuit against the university is being heard by U.S. District Judge William R. Wilson Junior without a jury. Richardson is seek monetary damages and his former job.
