Former basketball coach Nolan Richardson`s
lawyer today led Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles to
recount his use of a racial slur.
Broyles is testifying for a second day in a trial of
Richardson`s racial discrimination lawsuit against the university.
Under questioning from attorney John Walker, Broyles recounted a
discussion about his interpretation of a comment by Richardson.
Broyles said he was asked if he thought Richardson`s use of the
term -- quote -- "redneck S-O-B" -- was on par with a racial slur
against black people.
Broyles said he regrets using the slur in framing his question.
Broyles made the comment after Walker repeatedly asked him to
use the word fully -- which drew a visible response from Richardson
who was seated behind the lawyers` table.

The case is being heard before U-S District Judge William R-
Wilson Junior. Wilson today ruled that he would allow Arkansas
football coach Houston Nutt`s courtship with Nebraska this year to
be allowed into testimony.
University lawyer Phil Kaplan had objected to allowing the
issue, saying that it had no relevance to the case.
Walker disagreed, saying the university`s offer to Nutt is
germane to the Richardson case.
