A grass fire along Highway 67/167 in White County this afternoon was quickly contained by firefighters.

It happened around two o'clock on the shoulder of the road at the main exit (Exit 45) in Searcy.

Fire officials say there were actually two fires that were about 500 yards apart.

Two fire trucks and their crews were able to snuff the burning grass within minutes.

The smoke did not get thick enough to affect traffic through the area, and no buildings were threatened.

A White County Sheriff's deputy doing traffic control during the fire told KARK 4 he thinks it was sparked by a vehicle dragging something that was throwing sparks.

Comments

I don't think a truck throwing sparks could start several fires...not sure how many fires there was but when I drove through, I saw several. It started all the way from exit 45 all the way to the last Searcy exit. I think someone was deliberately setting fires since they were so scattered out.
