State Law Allows Pharmacists Not To Fill Prescriptions

A little-known state law is protecting pharmacists who choose not to fill prescriptions because of moral or religious grounds.
At issue are birth control and "morning-after" pills used to prevent conception. Some pharmacists who belong to the group "Pharmacists For Life International" say life is sacred and refuse to fill any prescriptions that interfere with conception.
"We do support the pharmacists right to make a moral decision on those issues," said Mark Riley, Executive Vice President of The Arkansas Pharmacy Association.
Arkansas and South Dakota are the only two states with laws on the books which allow pharmacists not to fill prescriptions on moral grounds. Ten other states are considering similar legislation.
