There may be more of a water surplus in
northwest Arkansas than most folks think. In addition to all the
rain last week that brought flooding, officials say Benton County
Rural Water Authority Number One can`t account for 30 percent of
the water it buys.
David Fletcher, manager of rural water common operations, said
the source of the water loss hasn`t been determined. But he said
officials are using test meters to find the source of the missing
water. Test meters are used to detect leaks or breaks in water
lines, but may also indicate if water is being taken out of the
system without being metered.
Fletcher said water loss is a normal occurrence with water
systems, but the amount lost by Authority Number One is too high.
