Texarkana police say a 14-month-old girl is in surgical intensive care after she was attacked by a pit bull terrier. Officer Bart Veal, spokesman for the police, said police are investigating the attack. Authorities said Linda Wiegret suffered multiple bites to the head and back, as well as lacerations that were almost five inches long, and a chipped skull. The girl received numerous stitches after the incident Sunday, and is expected to recover. The girl`s mother, 23-year-old Tiffany Hawkins, said she left the child in her mother`s back yard, in the care of a 19-year-old cousin. But she said the cousin went back inside the house and, when asked where the baby was, said she forgot the child. When the mother went outside to get the baby, she found the dog biting and scratching the baby. She told police she grabbed the baby and rushed her to the hospital.
