Ouachita County jailers say an inmate is hospitalized after drinking toilet cleaner. Officials said Hutson Burks, who faces a rape charge, drank the cleaning fluid after a weekend escape attempt failed. He is in the Ouachita County Medical Center. Jailers said Burks was angry about being placed in a lockdown cell Sunday because he set fire to his jail uniform. Ouachita County Sheriff Paul Lucas said Burks hoped to force an evacuation of the jail so he could escape. While in the lockdown cell, Burks threatened to drink the cleaner if his privileges were not reinstated. When officers declined to do that, he drank the fluid and was taken to the hospital. After he was released from the hospital, he refused to follow the physician`s orders, had severe abdominal pains and was readmitted at the hospital.
