Standoff Ends Near Benton

Authorities in Benton say a standoff with an armed man near an elementary school has ended. Police took the man into custody in his home, which is across the street from Angie Grant Elementary School. Officials say the students were not in danger. The school had been locked down, and students were moved to areas away from the part of the school that faced the house. Police were told at about 9 a.m. that the man in the house was in distress. Negotiators communicated with the man during the standoff.
