Jefferson County To Consider New Jail Monday Evening

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Jefferson County Quorum Court this evening is to consider buying an $89,000 property for a new adult jail. Subcommittees have recommended approval, and if justices of the peace agree, an existing building will serve as office space for the jail. County Judge Jack Jones wants to pay for the new budget appropriation using money from a county bond sale instead of from a half-cent sales tax increase approved by voters last year. A 304 bed facility would then be built on the land at a cost of about 11 million dollars. The plan is to open it by July 2006.
