Fort Smith Corporation Closing - 350 To Lose Jobs

Updated: January 7, 2009
West Corporation has announced it will close a telemarketing center in Fort Smith, taking 350 jobs out of the region. Omaha-based West has operated the center since 1998 and plans to shutter the facility on May 18th. A West spokeswoman says the closure is part of a plan by the company to close some outbound call centers and improve efficiency. Fort Smith employees were notified in March to allow them adequate time to find other positions. The state Economic Development Department and other agencies were also notified so they could help place workers in other jobs.
