Craighead County Sheriff Jack McCann has fired four jailers for the beating of a suspect. McCann apologized and said the incident is embarrassing. State police say the fired jailers could face felony charges stemming from the March 31st arrest of 48-year-old Terry O`Neil,. O`Neil told authorities that law officers shocked him several times with an electrical stun gun and punched him. He said several jailers kicked him at the jail. He said officers also assaulted and shocked his girlfriend. McCann fired 32-year-old Jody Miller, 23-year-old Josh Foster, 23-year-old David Gann and 26-year-old Matt Whitley, 26. Two guards who were in the jail at the time of the beating were not fired. Investigators found no evidence to support O`Neil`s allegation that a Brookland police officer participated in the beating. But Brookland Mayor Joe McKeel said the officer would remain on suspension until state police officially report the results of the investigation.
