Cable Rate Raise Raising Tempers in Maumelle

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Imagine opening your cable bill and discovering the fee you`ve been paying has doubled. Then you head to the company`s local office to complain, but you find it`s closed. That`s the situation being faced by some Charter Cable customers in Maumelle. The company recently raised the rates of some customers by as much as 175 percent. Just weeks earlier, Charter had closed its local customer billing office. The mayor of Maumelle, Burch Johnson, says he`s fighting back. He says the prices are only part of the problem and feels Charter`s move to close the local office is a breach of contract. Charter denies any wrongdoing and says it`s working hard to make sure customers can absorb the increased cost.
