Sheriff Identifies Man In Custody In Secretary`s Slaying

A man was charged today with capital murder in the slaying of the Phillips County Sheriff`s Department`s
secretary.
Officials say 59-year-old Nerme "Jean" Lindell was kidnapped
from her home in Helena on Tuesday evening. Her body was found just
outside the West Helena city limits. Investigators said Lindell had been shot to death.
Sheriff Ronnie White said today that Thirty-eight-year-old A.D. Hurd Junior of Helena was arrested late last night. White said Hurd, who was arrested without incident, is being held in the
Monroe County Jail at Clarendon.
White said Arkansas State Police conducted the investigation that led them to Hurd. He said investigators are still trying to determine whether Hurd and Lindell were acquainted.
The case is still under investigation.
