Little Rock Police Chief Lawrence Johnson
wants city leaders to think creatively about crime fighting
programs, although he admits some of his suggestions might cost too
much.
Johnson told the city Board of Directors last night that police
could better combat rising crime rates by allowing officers to take
their patrol cars home or by building detention centers for for
truant students and drunk drivers.
He acknowledged that he did not know how much the programs would
cost, and director Joan Adcock said she doubted the city could
afford them. She called the chief`s ideas "pie in the
sky," but Johnson said the police can`t "continue to
do business as usual."
