Famous Arkansan Supports Kerry

Updated: January 7, 2009
Arkansas native Mary Steenburgen was front and center at a star-studded Beverly Hills fundraiser for presumed Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry last night. With her husband, "Cheers" and "Becker" star Ted Danson, by her side, the actress told television reporters that she supported Kerry because President Bush had to be removed from office. She said "There`s a lot of unrest in the country right now and we need a major change." Steenburgen`s mother lives in North Little Rock and the actress and Danson have a swanky condo in the Arkansas Commerce Building in downtown Little Rock. Steenburgen was a die-hard supporter of fellow Little Rock resident Wesley Clark when he challenged for the nomination during the fall and winter. She was among the first volunteers at Clark`s temporary headquarters on the Arkansas River the day he announced his candidacy in September. She and her mother showed up in Clark T-shirts and embraced the former general, who dropped out of the race in February with only one primary victory.
