A prosecutor seeking to oust Pulaski
County-Circuit Clerk Carolyn Staley from office is questioning
whether to pursue the case since Staley has not filed for
re-election.
Prosecutor Larry Jegley said that, for now, the case is on
track.
Jegley filed suit in January to remove Staley from office based
on accusations that Staley mismanaged elections. A jury trial is
set for April 19th.
Even if Staley is removed, an appeal could stretch the case past
the first of the year.
Staley`s decision to not file for re-election by today`s noon
deadline means she will leave office January first.
Staley`s chief deputy, Janice Hay, is considering a run for the
office as an independent.
Several other candidates have filed for the position.
