Add another name to the race for the
Republican nomination for US Senate. Retired television
commercial actress Rosemarie Clampitt of Hot Springs was the next
to the last candidate to submit papers before today`s noon
political filing deadline.
The 66-year-old Clampitt says her decision to run was a
last-minute one. She says she made the decision because the other
G-O-P candidates -- state senator Jim Holt of Springdale and former
Benton County Sheriff Andy Lee -- are NOT addressing issues like
illegal aliens and same-sex marriage.
Clampitt says she supports President Bush`s war on terrorism but
would bring American troops in Iraq home to guard the nation`s
borders and to help in finding and deporting illegal aliens.
Clampitt is the second US Senate candidate from Hot Springs.
Democrat Lisa Burks is challenging incumbent Senator Lisa Burks in
the May 18th Democratic primary.
