The Arkansas Health Department is passing
along a warning about raw oysters. The department notes that the
Food and Drug Administration has issued an advisory that people
with liver disease or weakened immune systems are at high risk of
getting a bacterial infection when they eat raw oysters.
Health officials say the infection in a healthy person can cause
mild stomach or intestinal pain. But in a person with liver disease
or a weakened immune system, the infection can be deadly.
Health officials advise those people in the high risk category
that if they eat oysters, only eat them cooked.
