State Police Still Search For Fugitives

State police are in their fourth day of searching for two fugitives in the Ozark National Forest, but believe they are still in an area of eight square miles near Alread. Mark Holsombach and William Frazier shot a trooper when police approached their remote forest property Monday to serve warrants and question them in the recent disappearance of neighbors. The men probably escaped unnoticed after the firefight, but police thought they were in a lean-to for another 10 hours. State Police Sergeant Pete Westerman said authorities still believe the fugitives are in the area because all of their transportation is still there and there have been no reports of stolen vehicles. The authorities are near full strength of 40 to 50 search officers, but Westerman said they do consider quitting the search. He said they will review the situation two or three times during the day, but could not say how long they are willing to keep looking. He said it could end in three weeks or in a matter of hours. Rain is moving into the area, which could ground the police helicopter searching the mountainous zone. -------- Westerman also asked that people not come to the area for a scheduled Arkansas Game and Fish Youth Turkey Hunt this weekend. Nearby Archey Creek and Rattlesnake Hollow are popular destinations for the hunt and will be open, but Westerman said those areas could be dangerous if the men are hiding in sink holes there.
