Mike Ross Files Papers To Run For Congress

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Mike Ross of Prescott filed papers this morning to officially seek a third term as congressman for southern Arkansas. Ross, a self-described "Conservative Blue Dog Democrat," does not have a Republican opponent. But he said the Republican Party has spent several million dollars to oppose him in two previous congressional elections, and he expects more of the same this time. While outlining his priorities for a possible third term, Ross blasted President Bush for the recent Medicare bill, lack of funding for the No Child Left Behind Act and for cuts in transportation projects. Ross said Bush was putting the needs of Iraqi roads and schools over those in southern Arkansas. He criticized Bush for adding to the national debt with deficit spending, but Ross suggested deficit-spending of his own. He said that instead of giving $1.1 trillion in tax cuts, each of the 435 congressional districts should spend a billion dollars on road improvements.
