Captain Gussie Jones was remembered today for her loving spirit and deep religious faith. Jones, an Army nurse, died earlier this month while serving in Iraq. More than 100 people were present for her funeral in Little Rock. Jones was buried with military honors. Wanda McDaniel said her sister was always a giver, whether someone needed financial help, encouragement or a prayer. McDaniel said Jones, who was unmarried, loved her 18 nieces and nephews and took turns entertaining them. Jones had served in the Army since 1988 and was posthumously given two awards for her Iraq service: a Bronze Star and a fourth Army Achievement Medal. Military officials said Jones died from an apparent heart attack in Baghdad, where she was working as a medical surgical nurse. Her death remains under investigation. Posted by Mike Hellgren
