Meth Explosion Injures Child, Wakes Up Neighborhood

A 4-year old boy and a pregnant woman are victims of an explosion that firefighters say was started by a meth lab. Around 4:30 Sunday morning, firefighters responded to the house at 16511 Taylor Loop Road, where the mobile home trailer behind the house was fully engulfed in flames. "I heard an explosion and I looked up to my right and there were flames gushing, shooting out into the air," said neighbor Phillip Rambin. Narcotics officers searched through the trailers remains for more evidence of the meth lab that they say was inside it. "There was a series of explosions, they were sporadic, one and then a little while later, another explosion," Rambin said. Police say the five people in the home made it out and to the hospital on their own, including the four-year old boy, and a woman, who neighbors say was eight months pregnant. The child suffered burns to his face, hands, and leg. "I was afraid someone was still inside, especially when I heard a child crying," Rambin said. "These people that do this don`t always think safety. It`s not unsual to have children present," said Sgt. J.B. Stephens, Little Rock P.D., narcotics division. Police found more meth ingredients in a bag in the woods, just behind the trailer, and a small amount of finished meth near one of the cars. "Looks like they might`ve caried it out after the fire started and hid the meth lab in the woods," Sgt. Stephens said. Police say the Department of Human Services has been called about the child. Meanwhile, police say charges will be filed against the homeowners for endangering a child and battery. Police say all of the adults in the home could face multiple drug charges.
