The state Board of Education has revoked the
teaching license of a former Arkadelphia High School teacher
convicted of having a sexual relationship with a student. James
David Smith 59 was convicted in 2002 of 20 counts of violation of a
minor. He is serving a 20-year prison sentence. Last week, the
Arkansas Post Prison Transfer Board rejected Smith`s request for a
pardon. Smith`s victim was a 17-year-old female student, and Smith
had argued that she was beyond the state age of legal consent,
which is 16.
