Child Support Office Fighting Big Claim

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The state Office of Child Support Enforcement is fighting a 331 thousand dollar breach-of-contract judgment. The money was awarded to a Russellville landlord after the agency`s local office moved out of his building, claiming something there made workers sick. The decision in favor of Keith Cogswell was made by the state Claims Commission, which concluded that child support officials offered no evidence to back up their story. The commission ordered its clerk to submit a bill for the claim to the Legislature. The state was to have appealed the ruling to the Legislative Council`s Claims Review Subcommittee today, but the hearing was postponed indefinitely because only three members of the 16-member panel attended the meeting -- less than a quorum for conducting business.
