Wal-Mart Increases Dividend

Wal-Mart Stores says it will increase its annual dividend to 52 cents per share, up from 36 cents, a 44 percent increase. The change, approved by the board of the world`s largest retailer, brings the quarterly dividend on Wal-Mart common stock to 13 cents per share. The change is effective in the current fiscal year, which ends January 31st, 2005. The company says the increase means Wal-Mart will pay more than two (b) billion dollars in dividends to shareholders this fiscal year. The company has increased its dividend annually since its first declared one in March 1974. Also, the company said it plans to continue with its seven (b) billion dollar share repurchase program.
