Judge Denies Motion To Remove Pulaski County Clerk From Office

A Pulaski County judge denied a motion this morning that would have immediately removed County Clerk Carolyn Staley from office. Prosecutor Larry Jegley had asked for the motion, claiming that Staley missed a 30 day deadline to respond to his request for removal, so the judge should remove her. Pulaski County Judge Marion Humphrey denied the motion, saying it wasn`t appropriate for this case. Staley has been blamed for widespread problems with voter rolls and confusion at the polls. After voters reported problems, Jegley asked for a grand jury, which recommended in November that Staley be removed. A hearing on throwing her out of office is set for March 30th.
