Baptist Hospital Responds To Lawsuit

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Baptist Health Center is asking a federal judge to dismiss charges by a group of cardiologists that Baptist is illegally keeping out physicians who own shares in competing institutions. Lawyers for both Baptist and the doctors met with U-S District Judge James Moody yesterday and argued over whether the federal court has jurisdiction and whether Baptist can enforce the policy while it`s being contested. The six suing doctors say Baptist`s policy seeks to limit patients` rights to choose health care providers. Together, they hold about 15 percent stake in Arkansas Heart Hospital, an institution less than a mile from Baptist -- and one that Baptist considers a comptitor.
